Diversity of Backswimmers (Hemiptera: Notonectid) in the Freshwater Aquaculture Development Center Jambi, Indonesia

Abstract: 
This study aimed to identify and analyze the diversity of Notonectid species (Hemiptera: Notonectid) found in freshwater fish breeding ponds at the Freshwater Aquaculture Development Center (FADC) Jambi, Indonesia. The research was descriptive–explorative in nature, using purposive sampling by collecting backswimmers that could be captured in ponds containing four types of fish: tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), common carp (Cyprinus carpio), catfish (Pangasius sp.), and jalapate (Leprosarium Hoeven). Environmental parameters measured included water temperature. Data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H'), dominance index (D), and evenness index (E). The results revealed two species belonging to the family Notonectid, namely Notonectid sp. and Ani sops sp. The analysis showed a diversity index of 0.28, dominance index of 0.85, and evenness index of 0.40, indicating a low level of species diversity, relatively stable evenness, and the presence of a dominant species within the habitat.
